Website History
What about this site??? Yeah well that's why I'm writing this. No, it won't be an autobiography, but just a simple explanation about how I got into all this website business. From the very beginning of my appearence to the internet to my own .com.
It started way back in the year 2002 when Cablevision was disputing with the YES Network and those who had Cablevision lost the Yankees for a year because of that stupid dispute. I remember wanting to be able to voice my opinion about it, and what better place to do that than on the internet? Obviously, I didn't know much about html when I started (ruling out that I was only 13 at the time). Anyway, I used AOL's crappy Easy Designer tool to make a website that ranted about the wrongdoings of Cablevision. Originally, it was one gigantic blubbering page with too much information. I decided I had to have different pages for each "wrongdoing: of the company. So I made a simple menu with links to each page. Over time, the site improved... Well, I still have it saved on my computer and when I look back, it was a pretty cheesy site with a disgusting layout. In the mean time, I was learning html little by little, but not enough to create a new site from scratch. So I was using Easy Designer but adding extra html and javascripts to make it better.
The following year, the Yes Network and Cablevision had settled their dispute. Now that I had access to the Yankees, I was a happy person. Soon after, they upgraded their system which allowed for cable internet and iO digital cable. I loved iO so much, there was no point basing Cablevision anymore, so I took the site down.
I started working on another site, "Joe's Completely Useless Website" while the Cablevision site was still up. It was created on April 12, 2003 on a members.aol.com hosting account. Because there was nothing much to add to the Cablevision site, I needed a website to post my files on and thoughts. So I made a nice table (courtesy of Tabry) and started posting useless things that people could read. Eventually, I took the Cablevision site down completely and for the past year, I have added many pages and features to the "Useless" site.
Around the end of May in 2004, the AOL servers became very slow and this irritated me greatly. The only reason for me hanging onto AOL was for webspace. I had other Email, AIM and DSL, so AOL was a waste to have. Many people I know from middleman and other AIM forums had their own websites. I still didn't know html well enough to drop the Easy Designer tool. One day, I decided that i'd give it a shot (because people complained to me that my page was too big and they had to scroll which annoyed them.) Therefore, I remember laying on my stomach on my bed and removing a load of useless html added by Easy Designer and kept the necessity. The result? A perfect template for all of my pages. It wasn't that bad after all. Now that I was getting the hang of not using Easy Designer, I started rewriting loads of pages to be smaller and more efficient for the new site.
Portfolioso.com was launched and fully running on Saturday, May 29, 2004. Mission accomplised - having my own domain name by 11th grade. It was managed using Coranto, a CGI script used to manage my blog. This was very simple and integrated well. In April 2005, I was upset because there were no RSS feeds and my site was falling behind the times
In June 2007, the website had undergone a complete change. There were a few things I was very unhappy with. Wordpress was holding me back. Theming it was very difficult. My heavily modded theme did not comply with W3 web standards. As a result, it took forever for queries to execute and it looked different in various browsers. Currently, Portfolioso.com is up to standards. For security reasons, the blog has been separated from the main homepage and the layout has undergone a complete change. After 4 years, I'd say it was time for a change
And thus, portfolioso.com exists, hopefully with many years of great service and uselessness for all.
About Me
I really don't like to be publically known on the internet. So if you know me, stop reading because you know who I am. If you don't well then oh well.... (This about me section accomplished absolutely nothing).
